Following the launch of a limited edition Three Peaks lambswool scarf by Yorkshire clothing brand Glencroft, over £1,000 has been donated to the Yorkshire Dales National Park Three Peaks Project.
The scarf, which was woven at a traditional Yorkshire woollen mill from 100% lambswool, was launched by Clapham-based Glencroft to raise money to support the work of the Three Peaks project which was set up in 2009, to combat erosion and maintain the paths up to Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent.
All profits from the sale of the limited edition Three Peaks scarves, totalling £1,100, have now been donated by Glencroft to the project.
Edward Sexton, owner of Glencroft alongside parents Justina and Richard Sexton who set up the countrywear clothing business in 1987, said: “Having been based in the shadow of the Three Peaks for over 30 years, and with many of the paths up to Ingleborough beginning here in Clapham, it has been our pleasure to support the Yorkshire Dales Three Peaks Project in this way.
“Throughout the various lockdowns of the last 18 months, we have taken a great deal of pleasure and respite in these hills as a family, so it has been incredibly satisfying to see how the money has been put to good use already, to preserve and support the local environment that surrounds us – both as a family and a business.”
The scarves have proven a popular memento or gift for those taking part in the Three Peaks challenge, allowing participants in the Three Peaks Challenge to give something back to the local area.
Nick Cotton – Member Champion for Recreation Management at the Yorkshire Dales National Park, concluded: “We’re grateful to Glencroft for their support of the Three Peaks Project. Their generosity has given us a significant boost in what was a difficult year for fundraising.
“All donations to the project help keep our Three Peaks Ranger in post. Without them footpaths would quickly fall into disrepair and the surrounding landscape would be severely damaged.”
Just a handful of scarves remain, retailing at £39.99. Each one features the Three Peaks Project logo, embroidered by local company, Jaybee Supplies in Barnoldswick, and comes in a gift box with information about the Three Peaks Project.
